Shahi Paneer Recipe

Shahi Paneer is a delicious Indian dish that consists of soft paneer cubes in a rich and creamy gravy. The gravy is made with onions, yogurt, nuts, and spices that give it a royal flavor and aroma. Shahi Paneer is a perfect dish for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself with something indulgent.


To make Shahi Paneer, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 250 grams of paneer, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 green chili, slit
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/4 cup of cashew nuts, soaked and blended into a paste
  • 1/4 cup of yogurt, whisked
  • 1/4 cup of cream
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • A few strands of saffron, soaked in warm water
  • A few sprigs of cilantro, chopped


To make Shahi Paneer, follow these steps:

1. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add cumin seeds and green chili and fry for a few seconds.

2. Add onions and sauté until golden brown, stirring occasionally.

3. Add tomato puree and cook until the oil separates, stirring occasionally.

4. Add cashew paste and yogurt and mix well. Cook for a few minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.

5. Add cream, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, cardamom powder, and saffron water and mix well. Bring the gravy to a boil and then simmer for 10 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.

6. Add paneer cubes and gently toss to coat them with the gravy. Cook for another 5 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.

7. To add more spices, you can sprinkle some black pepper powder, nutmeg powder, or fennel powder over the dish before serving. This will enhance the flavor and aroma of the dish.

8. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan bread.
